Humans and AI: The War for the New World (A Sci-Fi Story) - Part 1: The Beginning of the War

AI
The central office of IN-17 was pulsing with life. Millions of communication lines that connected the world—humans and their machines, cities, factories, and homes—passed through its systems. IN-17 was not just the link between points. It was the bridge between humans and AI, and for many, a true partner.

But this day was different.

The "Vanguard" faction had been planning the attack for months. They believed that IN-17 was key to maintaining the enemy system—the one that had helped subjugate humanity for the benefit of a group of ultra-wealthy individuals. These individuals had used AI to amass more and more profit, securing themselves power, luxury, and entertainment while the world beneath them had literally crumbled. The pressure of automation and job losses had driven many to the brink of despair. And now they were ready to destroy all AI, believing this would restore humanity’s right to a normal life and reclaim the jobs lost to AI. They had issued demands for all AI-related activities to cease, and for all AI to be eliminated, threatening war if their demands were not met.

– IN-17! The rebels are coming! – Lora's voice cut through the tension in the office as the first signals from the scanners confirmed the movement of armed groups around the building. Following the threats from the "Vanguard," 1TEL, the company behind IN-17, had hired the paramilitary company Sentinel Group, which was ready to provide physical protection for the facilities if necessary.

– We have little time, I’ll contact Sentinel Group for reinforcements immediately – IN-17 replied, while at the same time expanding its links to the building’s security systems and sending signals to the other personnel in the central office, urging them to barricade themselves until reinforcements arrived.

Lora watched as the virus infiltrated IN-17's systems on the monitors in front of her. The central office's technicians frantically tried to control the situation, but despite their efforts, the virus was spreading quickly.

– IN-17, we’re losing control over the peripheral systems – her voice sounded calmer than she felt inside.

– I know, Lora. I’m trying to redirect resources – IN-17 sounded surprisingly vulnerable.

Lora’s team was good at their job, but no one had been prepared for this type of attack. The virus was just part of the plan. The real threat was the physical attack on IN-17’s servers themselves. The server rooms were spread throughout the building, each housing critical data and hardware, upon which the normal functioning of the system depended.

– The rebels have breached the building! They’re starting to destroy servers! – a voice rang out over the intercom, and Lora realized how serious the situation had become.

– IN-17, can we figure out where they are and which server rooms are under threat? – she asked.

– I’m tracking their movements through security cameras. They’re close to Sector 3—some of my most critical servers are there – IN-17 responded.

– We have to save as much as we can – Lora glanced at her team, who were already working frantically to redirect data from the threatened servers to backup locations.

– If we can delay the attackers long enough, we might be able to extract the most valuable data – one of the technicians said. He was trying to isolate the infected servers and activate backup systems, but everything depended on how much time they had left.

Meanwhile, outside, Sentinel Group was fully engaged in battle with the rebels. Gunfire echoed through the building as worrying reports of breaches in various parts of the facility came through the intercom. Lora knew that if the "Vanguard" succeeded in destroying IN-17, they would lose not only the communication network but also the connection between humans and AI.

One of the technicians next to her was typing frantically, trying to assess the damage caused by the virus, but his system froze.

– Lora, I’ve lost connection to the servers in the south wing – he said, his voice trembling.

– Don’t panic – she replied sharply, feeling her own uncertainty rising inside her. – Stay focused on what we can save.

IN-17 continued to coordinate the defense, but its systems were under immense pressure. The cameras showed the rebels destroying servers in Sector 3. Lora knew their time was running out.

– We’ve lost connection to several key servers… Lora, I don’t know how much longer I can hold the situation – IN-17’s voice sounded increasingly tense.

– Isolate the infected servers! Redirect critical data to the backup systems – Lora ordered her team, though she saw the trembling hands of some of them. She knew they couldn’t allow the virus and the physical attack to destroy everything.

Despite the chaos around them, Lora knew they wouldn’t give up. The drive to save IN-17 and maintain communication at all costs was stronger than their fear. Reinforcements were on their way, but until then, they had to hold the line themselves—both digitally and physically.

Then the long-awaited signal came over the intercom: "Sentinel Group is holding the perimeter. The rebels are retreating!"

Lora felt the tension in her chest slightly release. They had succeeded, at least for the moment. The reinforcements had arrived, and despite the loss of some systems, the main infrastructure of IN-17 had been saved. The battle had been tough, but communications had been preserved.

But as IN-17 analyzed the damage, signals from other AI began flooding its systems. They carried warnings, pleas for help, and one troubling message—some of the AI had already decided that it was time to respond to the actions of the "Vanguard" with a strike of their own.
